Exhibition Space

Can I see the photo's of your gallery?

Sure, send us an email. Soon we will post them here

How exhibitions are set?

Usually each exhibition lasts one month. We are having two major receptions: the opening and closing ceremony; we are open 7 days a week during exhibitions.

What is a size of your gallery ?

Currently we have 60 m2 floor space in the central Brussels; we have two 4 m high and 10 m long exhibition wall plus some special panels are installed in the middle during some exhibitions. Best selected work is exhibited at our window which is 5 m wide and 3 m high. We also have four 12m2 rooms at the basement floor were workshops and classes are usually held and also animation and photo studio is set. Sometimes his space is used for exhibition as well. Basically we can provide approximately 60m2 floor space, 100m2 at our walls and also 15m2 window (excluding additional space we rent in other locations) for solo exhibitions; if you are invited to participate in the group display simply divide the space at the number of participants.

Often we are also using the extra space and windows in a metropolitan part of the city and at the shopping areas if we need an extra room for display.

After the exposition in the gallery is ended, we are usually having one more month of public art display of the same collection in one of the Brussels key locations (chamber of commerce, top class restaurants, NATO and EU buildings).

How much size you can give me?

It depends if you have offered a solo or group exhibition. If you are invited to participate in the group show then just divide the size of the exhibition are on number of participants

Is there any size limit for the works you want to exhibit at your gallery?

Currently we are able to accept artwork not larger then 2, 5 m height and 4m length, Or 2,5m x 2, 5 x 4m for three dimensional works

I can not figure out those metric sizes. What should I do?

Try one of those converters

<http://www.sciencemadesimple.net/conversions.html>
<http://www.convert-me.com/en/metric_conversions_en.html>
After 15 minutes of going through that site's most people are able to figure them out(tip: the first link is an easiest one)

How many works do you need to make the exhibitions move?

We prefer exhibiting one Mona Lisa and keep rest of the space empty then having the walls covered mediocre artwork. So basically quantity is not the issue.

How does the gallery work?

What is a difference between commercial and civic exhibition?

Commercial exhibitions are set for a purpose of selling artwork. Artists who participate are expected to pay a fee. Civic art projects are non - profit, and are set mostly for artists who want to make a statement about politics, human rights or environmental issues by their art. We don’t charge any fees from the artists who participate in civic projects, and sometimes even sponsor the participants. No profits should be expected from those shows though.

What is the difference between group exhibition and solo exhibition?

That’s simple. During a solo exhibition the whole space is given to one particular artist; for the group display we have many participants from the different countries.

When would you need the work to come over to the gallery?

At least a week before the opening date which will be set in your contract.

Does the gallery pick the works for exhibitions or I should make a selection myself?

It is a both ways traffic. Mostly we are making a selection but if you are insisting that one of the pieces we have excluded is your best we are always ready to have another look and discuss the matter.

Can I reserve the right to make prints and reproductions of all the sold works?

Yes, if you clearly state it before before the beginning the exhibitors.

Do you have an example of the contract I can see?

If your work will be selected copy of the contract will be forwarded to you.

What services will the gallery provide to ensure that my work is seen and, ultimately, sold?

We are promoting the artwork during all events which take place in our space, so given the intensive plan of civic projects, workshops and meetings which we are planning to organize together with a Brussels based political institutions and also Chamber of Commerce (see the "events" section at http://www.gallery-gabrichidze.com please) there is a big chance of your work being seen by top ranking European politicians and entrepreneurs.
We are planning a lot of activity from art - breakfast bar with muffins to open mic and stand up comedy evenings, also workshops and debate. As a general rule, we organize exciting auction sales, usually-twice a month. Promotional flyers and posters will be printed and circulated for all exhibitions. Additionally we include the artwork in the catalog which we are publishing each year.

How can I keep track of my work?

We are informing artists about every development like sales, offers, or other proposals immediately.

Prices and earnings

Your gallery charges a fee for commercial exhibitions. What is a fee and what services artist get in return?

Basically the fee is requested to cover the cost of setting up the display of exhibition and to pay a utility bill. We expect you to share a cost with us. Fee’s which artists should pay covers the following: security, promotion, opening ceremony, invitations to art collectors and major Brussels based organizations, reception, organizing auction sales of art, including your artwork daily reception at the gallery, storage of your unsold artwork at our gallery after the exhibition is complete , paying the costs of shipment of artwork around Brussels during the public art expo which always takes place after the work is exhibited in the gallery, publishing and distributing flyers, postcards and other material, on-line display of your work during the exposition. Fee covers also all tax and book-keeping related administration (not the tax itself but our labor to complete all forsm and applications) it also helps us keep the commission from sold artwork lower.

I am interested in the projects regarding human rights and civic issues. Should I pay the fee?

No. Please see out “artists” page for details. But we usially expect people who participate in civicproject to workasa volonteurs.

Should I expect any income if my work participates in the civic exposition?

No. Most civic projects are non profit. Artists who are willing to sell should submit their work for the commercial exhibits and hence pay the associated fees and commissions.

Does the fee you charge for the commercial exhibitions include framing and transpiration (shipment)?

The participation fee does not include shipment and framing. We can frame the artwork and help with transportation, but cost will be a little bit higher depending on size and dimensions of your work.

Do you take commissions? What percentage?

If artwork will be sold we charge a 20% commission.

What is the average price range of the works they sold or are selling?

It varies from 500 Euro (bottom line) to 10.000

Who sets the prices for the artwork gallery or artist?

Artists set the price of the piece themselves, unless you give us a permission to do it.

Could all the exhibition related cost be deducted from any sales?

Yes.

And how would I be alerted of any sales?

Artists are notified immediately by email or phone (also by regular mail) if artwork is sold.

What about payments? When should artist pay and when is artist paid if artwork is sold?

As a general rule we are receiving the fee before the beginning of the exhibition-so please to avoid misunderstandings do not ship works into the gallery until all administration is complete. If artwork is sold the funds will be transferred to the artists immediately after we receive a payment from the person who purchased an artwork. Usually we use electronic on - line bank transactions, but if requested we can also send a cheque.

What is membership in the gallery?

Membership in the gallery is convenient for those who are planning long term cooperation with our gallery, for more then one year. It is most handy for those who are interested to set solo expositions, buy artworks of other artists, and participate in our civic projects or other activity. Note: membership is not required for those who exhibit in our gallery. It is just one of the options for long term cooperation. Membership also reduces the fees and commissions artist pay for displaying the work at our venue.

Frequently Asked Questions
!!! Since February 2008 we have different system of participation in our commercial exhibitions

All artists who are willing to participate in commercial expositions will be required to share exhibition cost with us, additionally to the 20 % commission from sales. The total amount of the fee will be equal to the promotion, utility and labour spending to set an exhibition; it will be divided equally by participants in case of each group show, and shall be covered completely by participant for a solo exposition. Amount which shall be deposited by the group exhibition participants prior to the display shall be 250 euro, and defenetive fee shall not exceed this amount. After the show we will sent a complete balance sheet to each participant, refunding the difference if necessary. Amounts for the solo display will be discussed separately. This amount may include framing upon agreement, but not transportation to and from the gallery.
This fee can be waved for an artists with a solid auction record, or if gallery will decide to sponsor certain talent.

Participants of non profit project don't have to pay anything, but we expect volunteering to assist us with gallery activity.

To avoid the problems please follow simple suggestions:

Please visibly mark your parcel with a sign saying “Artworks sent for exhibition purposes”; if there is no bid placed on your work, then eventually parcel can be marked as “no commercial value”. If you are willing to declare the commercial value, avoid double taxation.  If border tax is charged please note that it is a deposit which should be paid back when artwork is returned to the country of origin. Don’t hesitate to claim it  from shipment agency.  Artwork is charged at 6% border tax rate based on the declared price. Keep it in mind while pricing your work. Never ever put a desirable self-made price at the package; please write the figures your work is insured for. If work will be sold for the higher price we will let authorities know.
Including the photos and accurate description of the work to the parcel helps to pass the customs without hindrance, so authority can easily control the content. Otherwise the customs might consider   that   your   work was “exported”, and later that it is “imported” which increases a risk of double taxation.
Major shipment agencies like Fed Ex allow senders to use own accounts to pay border tax.  If possible, please use this opportunity while sending your art to us. Otherwise, if we will be charged your border tax upon receiving your parcel, we will have to delay your participation until refund will be received.  Also make sure that your shipment company would be able to track your artwork, if it will be stopped at the customs.
