This project was set in a framework of BreXpat, supported by King Baudouin Foundation.
BreXpat was a KBF foundation project with an aim to achieve better understanding between locals and expats in Brussels. "Next Step", our contribution to the BreXpat started at the spring 2008 and lasted three month. Every Saturday, we were allowing expats and locals to come to our gallery and share their ideas how to use art, music or dance and help people from different backgrounds understand each other.
The best ideas were set up as a public projects at our venue. This melting pot of ideas lead us to many interesting events, eventually turning the "Next Step" into a popular hot spot in town.

THE NEXT STEP II
At spring 2009 we have to launched the second stage of our weekly workshops.
The success of first "Next Step" encouraged us to continue these productive events every Saturday, helping Brussels natives and expats to become better friends.
In a next stage of the project Gallery Gabrichidze wasn't just the venue of cultural exchange, we have also acted a place where problems were addressed and solutions were offered.
During our weekly workshops we have found out about bureaucratic obstacles, which many creative expats were facing while dealing with immigration rules.
As a result some our of partner artists, writers and musicians could not efficiently contribute to the European cultural development. To ensure that every talent would flourish, we have organized a new series of workshops providing our partners from international artistic networks and expat community with an up-to date feedback and advice about this limitations.
To ensure the legal accuracy we have used the help of our partner organization, the Lexial Advocaten

“Studio space is available for artists, photographers and designers” says the add posted by Gallery Gabrichidze at various advertising boards. On a first glance in looks like a regular commercial add.
However artists, critics and journalist who responded, soon found themselves involved in the cultural project of the international significance. Our gallery has offered global artistic community an opportunity to create the artwork in the supporting gallery environment and to find new friends in Brussels artistic community.
What "Universal language" is about? Gallery Gabrichidze invites creative foreigners and members of local community (both Flemish and French speaking) to communicate using universal language of art. New artworks will be created in the gallery space during the opening hours, allowing visitors to make a suggestion. Performance rehearsal will be held at the public areas of the gallery. The concepts and sketches will be created right at the face of the public. Both visitors and artists not have a great opportunity not only to share their vision, but also to participate into the process of creation talking one great step toward better understanding.

THE UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE
According to Hasboro press realize and Psychology Today you can learn more about someone by playing a game than going on 10 dates.
At the upcoming game nights Gallery will provide the game boards for chess and checkers, and also, by request for monopoly and backgammon. Visitors are allowed to offer their own games, including the traditional games of the foreign countries. Participation is free of charge.
In a framework of the BreXpat we have organized regular chess tournaments and simultaneous chess presentations.
We are currently inviting volunteers to organize more game night in our gallery.
